Brakes: Check that the brakes are not binding and the car rolls free. The handbrake has a tendency to stick and cause a drag – make a special mention to check it at every service.
Air Filter: Keep the air filter clean, making sure that you have all the dust clogging the filter blown out or the air filter replaced as recommended by the manufacturer. If you drive in particularly dusty conditions, increase the frequency of this operation.
Clutch: Should be properly adjusted. A little unnoticeable slipping could be causing you to pay that few thousand extra in the way of fuel bills.

Engine Oil: As the oil thickens, it causes a drag on the engine. Best is to use a synthetic oil. Though normal oil is good enough for everyday driving, it should be changed on the dot as per manufacturer recommendations. Do not take liberties like running the car for a few extra hundred kilometres.

Engine: Keep the engine well tuned and serviced – this expenditure will go a long way in saving a few rupees everyday. Don’t neglect your spark plugs. If there’s one item that can significantly reduce your fuel bill, it’s a set of new plugs.
