The Volkswagen offers new 1.0-litre petrol engine for Ameo which replaces the 1.2-litre petrol engine used in almost all its model. The Volkswagen Polo was the first to get the 1.0-litre petrol and later company announced that every one of its models which utilize the 1.2-liter petrol engine will move to the new 1.0-litre engine. The Volkswagen Ameo which comes under the sub-4m compact sedan segment continues to be available on the same price of the 1.2-litre engine, which begins at Rs. 5.50 lakh and go up to Rs 7.35 lakh based on Delhi ex-showroom.
The Ameo powered by 1.0-litre 3 cylinder petrol engine produces a maximum power of 76 bhp at 6200rpm and a peak torque of 95 Nm at 3000-4300rpm. The older 1.2-litre engine made 75hp at 5400rpm but a stronger 110Nm torque at 3750rpm. The new engine continues to get a 5-speed manual transmission unit. As of now, the company has not announced automatic transmission unit. To the extent the diesel variations are concerned, they will proceed with the 1.5-liter engine. The Ameo keeps on getting double airbags and ABS as standard over all variants. It also gets a touchscreen multimedia system along with cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, anti-pinch power windows and cornering lamps.
The Ameo will face competition from Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tiger and new generation Honda Amaze. The Volkswagen Ameo continues to be available in the same variant as available before. The Ameo with the new 1.0-litre engine is expected to be available in the dealerships as soon as the old stock with 1.2-litre engine are sold out.
